Concrete slab

On a job existing concrete slab knackered, it's straight onto soil, slab is only 1-2 inches thick no dpm.

Need to remove and redo slab with dpm underneath.

Never done one before what mix would be best?

Thanks

It's in a kitchen 3/4 room is suspended floor and the end concrete slab (around 6m2) but it's knackered, can literally crumble it in your hands. Not very thick either around 1-2 inches directly on soil. My plan was to dig a bit deeper, 4 inches, damp proof membrane then concrete?

What you mean suspended? Block and beam? 2-3" hardcore, blind with sand DPM and 4" concrete at least, then celotex and screed jobs a gooden

it is difficult without being able to see it.
we would only use a suspended floor if the infill was over 500 cm. to leave a small area like that is odd.
dig out about 120 and concrete.
i would then lay a poly membrane over the complete floor. if the screed is say 75mmm or more thick you could lay a sheet of D49 ,a type of reinforcement metal mesh. or lay chicken mesh or fibres in the screed.

If I were to go down the route of hardcore, insulation, screed etc I would have to dig down deep! None of the other floors in the house are insulated. This is simply an area of concrete butting onto a block and beam floor. I just need to re do the slab, latex it and get vinyl down.

the existing slab has been there for 40years, I appreciate what I'm doing is not to building regs, but can anyone see any issues with laying a 100mm concrete slab directly onto membrane on soil?

Bit of a pigs job as you say, but if that's what they want. Just go with the flow, lino will cover it anyway

Maybe bit late but if your going to skip the insulation layer some type 1 hardcore on base and whack it, thin layer of sand, dpm, 4" concrete 6:1 all in to cement and screed finish.

Thanks mate...had clay, was pretty solid, we laid sand over it then dpm, then 75mm concrete, latex to finish. Haven't done one since college, didn't think about protective clothing/knee pads literally had to rip my trousers off when I got home severe cement burn all over my knees....job cam out nice though!

Cement burns are a b*****d I've had a few, before insulation was mandatory to build modern sweat boxes by regs we used to lay slab strait on the DPM. Latex strait on slab is OK if a tidy slab surface but I still prefer to put a screed on top first before prep for vinyl.

When. Building my house, great weather there day doing them foundations I decided to do tgem in pair of shorts and trainer's. In and out if the concrete like a big eejit thinking I'll be OK just to wash it off. Ankles swole up next day and had to go to the doctors to get her to help remove some concrete from my ankles! Young and stupid!
