Unhappy with plastering work but unsure what to expect?

In truth, and it may seem a bit harsh, but this customer and other who do the same, are partly responsible. It's only because people hand over money for this kind of rubbish that people keep doing it.

A similar problem is when I get customers asking how much money I want up front! Even with all the publicity about not handing over five figure sums.
I suppose part blame is on the customer for carrying out payment and she's accepted the standards by doing so but even still it's a harsh one to take on the chin

I haven't handed over the money in full. I have paid him by the day but haven't paid him anything for the two days of skimming he has done, because until he started skimming I didn't know how bad a job he was doing - when he was boarding, I didn't have a clue how it should look.

When plaster is still wet things are still hidden to someone who's not a professional looking at it .. it's still a verbal contract from the plasterer to meet standards and as the customer she should have every right to get her money back

Kitchy I thought the plastering in the other thread was horrendous, no as bad as this but still horrendous. I don't see how you can defend the other plasterer
Not defending it pal I was judging by the pics that got put up..have another look there was 4 pics and 1 of them had paint on wallpaper..that was also 90% the clients fault for not waiting for the gud spread and planning being shite..that other thread wasn't nowt a gud decorated cud have sorted in 10minutes max..this is un sortable is wat I'm getting at I bet that decorator didn't do a ounce of prep

Kate you need to get a reputable company round to give you another quote to fix what has been done. Present this to your old plaster and tell him he needs to pay this or will go through trading standards and the court to get your money back.

Thank you for all your replies! I do appreciate your honesty. I don't know whether to be angry, upset or embarrassed.

What do people suggest doing now? Does it need re skimming? Is it even fixable? Am I best off looking on something like checkatrade for a new plasterer?

Thanks again

Ok great, thank you.

Where are you from Kate. See if you can get a well known plasterer from the forum to call round to give you a quote.

PVA was on the list of materials he gave us, and there's none left. So I'm assuming he's used it

Looks like I'll have a challenge getting someone to fix his s**t work then? It just gets worse

Just be prepared for a sizeable quote Kate..no plasterer charges by the hour aswell its either a fixed day rate or a quote for the job..ive never heard of a spread going into a job asking to be paid by the hour

The lass is holding out from telling us id be putting his name, address, dob, height and weight everywhere and a photo if poss
Not holding out. Just not much known. Name is Andy, from Darlington. An acquaintance of my brother. He works full time plastering show homes - somewhere further south, and does private work on a weekend. That's all I know. Bigger fool me, huh?

He rendered a small external wall for my mother. Charged £60 and it looked good. I based my judgement on that one wall, and a recommendation from my brother. Brother feels awful. My partner and I feel stupid.
