Can some one clarify for me please, architect and foreman arguing next to me over pink board does it give 40 mins or an hour

@Olican According to our last building control officer he reckoned 2 layers of 12.5mm fireline for an hour rated ceiling.

I was always told a single layer of 12.5mm fire line was an hour. Normal board is half an hour which is why we used to double board?

One sheet is half hour I think with pink or double normal boards, half hour is what's sought I believe in general.

**** knows. Its all pink once its skimmed. Plus of youre still in the house by the time the fire affects any steelwork chances are you're dead anyway

:RpS_lol: think its more for the benefit of them trying to put the flames out.

unusual to double board a ceiling.
No it's not Ray,we had to treble board some ,treble boarded walls with fireboard too as spec
lively job a couple of years back, treble board all externall walls, double all of party wall, double all ceilings and double kitchen internal walls,275 boards in one flat, it had been fire damaged , great job great money.

You wouldn't normally have to double board in new build ( there are a few exceptions ), as you can reach the required minimum 30 minute rating with a single layer of board.
The hour rating was for an office/living accommodation refurb job, which I was told by building control could only be achieved with a double skin.

yeah your right, the plaster adds to the rating, spose the spec/ratings are different depending if it's plastered or tapered and jointed.

Hi Guys

Boards on their own do not give a fire rating..... it is a wall build up that gives the fire rating!

You need to say what the wall make up is - metal or wood stud, insulation in the stud, what boards on other side.....?

It may be best for the Architect / builder / client / you guys to actually contact the board supplier you are using to confirm the details - especially is this is a important wall in the build.

Knauf technical can be contacted via 01795 424499

Like what scissors says it depends on the use of the building or the room you are doing also if your going round steel. Also if it's seperate accommodation above it will change again also garage ceilings usually have it if it's below a habitable room. Every time in have done around steel on an official job it's speced two skins if fire line with the joints staggered and the first skin taped and filled.

BG used to send you out their white book if you contacted them, handy to have in the van.
Not sure if knauf have one.

Knauf have a manual - The Blue Book

You can get one posted out to you FOC, also by using a freephone number - call 08700613700

Or you can view the Knauf Manual on line through www.knauf.co.uk - see the link to The Manual on the left hand side, half way down
