sponging is it nessasary

All the time i was on my course,they never used sponging techniques,what is,and how is it done,any vids would be great if possible,or an in depth step by step,PLEASE.

using a sponge just brings the glut to the front.better finish just using youre trowel.

It helps you finish a bit earlier, don't bother if you're doing domestic stick to 2 coat
