Render on old building

Is it ok to use a cement based render over an old house built with bricks and lime mortar?

Yes, keep it about six to one / one sand cement lime

No but most people do,try and do it on a listed building and see what happens. Your lime walls will move a bit as they are supposed to sand and cement is to rigid and will crack in time, might take 30 years before the damage is apparent.
