Hello
I’m on a restoration job
It has this lumpy smooth finish
Was done in 1890s
Never seen it before
I think it’s to reduce reverberation in the large rooms with 13’ ceilings
It’s as if you threw large clods of base at the walls and ceilings then partially smoothed them out then troweled a smooth coat over the lumps
I can’t wrap my head around how the lumps were created or even how it has a smooth finish

Please help
Thanks
Doug

It’s as if it was plastered with bare hands
It’s a very large job
40,000 sq ft total
A national historic building
