    A GUIDE TO FLOATING WALLS

Good guide and very interesting not the way I was taught when serving my time but can see why it would be a true and correct way to do things. Was always told that the secret to good plastering is good perpetration, this is evident here in the guide.

Coming to mainland in new year

A root is a derogatory term, can be many variations of a root where I live, in Northern Ireland, ballbag, dickhead, toilet is one we are using quite recently? Prod/ taig thing quite sensitive over here so if I jumped the gun that's why. I am a prod by the way but let's not go into all that...

Ooh this thread turned ugly quickly lol. I agree though if he can't skim or isn't sure on it he is no time served spread, he's kind of defeating his own question with his lack of experience admission. Good tip would be go serve your time mate

  21. E

    Hello people, Stuart, belfast

Not familiar with board finish bubbles, our skimming options mainly consist of carlite, also ultra finish, then the multi finish, and twice I've used knauf which doesn't leave as good a job in my opinion
  22. E

    Hello people, Stuart, belfast

I do indeed, just finished a double storey extension with it, boarded, floated with sand and cement ceilings bonded and entire place skimmed with carlite, great job.

    Thistle multi finish or carlite???

It's still made no shortage whatsoever over here, anyone wants to order it gimme a shout, I'll put a quid a bag on it lol
  26. E

    Thistle multi finish or carlite???

We have always skimmed over plasterboard with it, never any problem, I'm amazed that none of you have seen it in years, still being produced en mass in Northern Ireland.
  27. E

    Thistle multi finish or carlite???

Things seem to be done differently in all sectors of uk, some like products and methods that others don't. We were forever using carlite until the multi finish came in. Plus points being price and setting time. Working on a site at the minute where builder wants to use carlite, haven't really...

    Vaulted ceiling

We would get the joiners to plane some thin timber into a feathered edge and screw to the wall where it meets ceiling angle, levelling the feather edge and margin it from floor. Would then scrim and bond entire ceiling, getting it tight to the feather edge but just a few mm back to allow for...

External smooth sand/ cement finish. How do you do yours????

Just inquiring on other people's process to achieve this finish. We would apply base coat/ scratch coat around 10mm thick, keep very flat and neat, and set PVC angle beads/ stop beads with scratch coat. We would use a 3/1 sand cement mix with liquid waterproofer. Would normally allow to cure for...

    problems troweling

And if you read the post correctly it gets 3 trowels or 4 if necessary, only difference is the water on first hit is limited or non existent.
  41. E

    problems troweling

Never left a rough wall in my life, the closing in trowel is done with little or no water so as not to fill any holes or blemishes with water as opposed to skim, too much water too early in the process will leave water marks as we call them when wall/ ceiling is finished. You'd be better not...

    PVA question

That is what we do on reskims, never had any bother, have never applied Pva the day before think its a totally unnecessary waste of time
  43. E

    problems troweling

No disrespect intended, but anyone who has to even ask advice on what I would class the very basics of the game is no plasterer. After 6 months or less of my apprenticeship I wouldn't have asked that question, I'm bewildered, but I don't want to come across as non helpful so my input is this; we...
