Stilts warning

Hi Guys I'm Joe, I have been plastering for 34 years mainly on new developments. I just want to let you know whats happened to me and wondered if anyone else has had similar problems.
Iv been using Durastilts for 26 years and I consider them to be the best. I usually keep them on for 4 hours to get all ceilings at the same time or on and off to do a room. After I did a few ceilings last week I got pains in lower right leg, it became swollen and very painful. I rang the doctor and they got me straight in and scanned it. they found two blood clots in my calf and diagnosed me with Deep Vein Thrombosis which is potentially very dangerous.
I'm a very fit bloke and not overweight or smoke. I cant prove it but Im convinced having the stilts strapped tightly round my calf for long periods over all these years has caused trauma to the veins and slowed circulation causing clots.
The stilts have been a god send to me and saved me a fortune over the years but I wont be using them anymore, I want to advise everyone to make sure the straps don't dig in and don't stay on them for prolonged periods.
I'm on the meds now which should clear it but like i say it can be very serious

Iv got the new dura stilts with the wrap round rubber hinge thing on the strap! Very comfortable and lightweight. Don't cut into legs at all. Had mt 2.0 before that. Soon as I put the dura stilts on I wondered why the hell Iv been walking about on them shite mt ones for around 8 years.

i have had blood clots in one leg, a black lump that feels that you have just walked through a field of stinging nettles !
not from using stilts, which i have never done.
my gp told me the problem . you have valves in both your legs which help to pump the blood back to your heart. the valves have lost their pressure, the blood is staying in your leg and therefore clotting. i now have to wear a compression stocking on my left leg now to stop the blood clotting there. i was also told to keep my leg up on a chair as this helps the circulate. try not to sit with your legs crossed.
the joys of growing old!

Its got nothing to do with stilts mate.....your spending to much time on yer feet.
Stop late days and weekends.
Ive had the same.

Hi mate, yes I'm sure there are many ways of triggering DVT including being on your feet too much but mine started soon after being strapped in for half a day which I have done for years. When I look at the permanent indentation the straps have created above my calf it seems obvious that the veins have been choked regularly.
I just thought it was worth a mention in case anyone who uses stilts and gets the symptoms of pain and swelling to lower leg to see a doc asap. Cheers :)
