Hello what additives do you lot use in s&c. do you use separate additives or an combined one. What do you think works for you lot. Waterproofer in base and top or just top etc. just keen to know what other methods other people use. Cheers

This can vary from day to day or mix to mix,in summer I will generally use waterproofer in the scratch and a plasticiser or lime in the top coat,in winter I may not use waterproofer at all and may use a hardener or frostproofer and the amounts I will alter to coincide with the weather or the levels of suction,I prefer to do it this way over the 3/1 type render mixes.

It depends on what finish is required surely? Some require suction some don't. Don't know why you wouldn't have waterproofer in a scratch coat, (dark days excepted) there are so many superlatives as mentioned above along with the sand you are using is a very important aspect also.

I like it when the weatherproof works and it's season change. Can't beat a half 9-10 o'clock finish with lights!!

Same with mono and the accelerator ( namely k-rend) doesn't kick in and either 50-80 m of hard scratch or 10 o'clock finish!!
The things we do ah

I use freeflo in the scratch and top coats in winter and summer.
I scratch with 3+1 and finish with 6+1 + half lime
In the winter I put a shovel of lime in the scratch coat it helps the top coat pull in.

You should have a waterproofer in scratch coat to avoid suction in top coat. Generally all are ok but there are some god damn awful ones too, or there used to be

Depends what products to be honest.
Cementone is found in places like b and q and some builders merchants.
Sovereign stuff is used for damp proofing and they provide guarantees to approved contractors so additives are stronger.
As an example when doing damp remediation and was tanking a basement and I need to issue a guarantee, if I need SBR then Ill use sovereign stuff not cementone SBR or it won't be valid.
If I was doing my own job and say I need to apply a SBR slurry before rendering over a external wall then I would just use the cementone one.

I can't recall its been so long, I use Evoplast all the time now, but I remember my dad throwing one back across the counter with the words 'it looks like sh1t and that's exactly what it is!'
Used to kill the mix stone dead and make it unspreadable.

Where's best place to get additives, b&q etc sell limited products

I worked with a bloke in the early 80's who dashed the side of a new block of Council flats in the early 60's. He used Daz washing up powder.

Still on today.
My dad tells me some lads use to use washing up powder late seventies early eighties lol, I suppose it cleans your pebbles well when it rain haha apparently made it really creamy though
