TonyM where u based?

Cornwall. I might come up and see you sometime if that's ok. I need to see the finish of the spray drywall gear, especially how you finish internals etc and what is actually left to sand. That monster house I've been doing, I've been doing the level 5 skim coat by hand and it's a killer. I've got 3 large projects coming up where this finish is required so I've got to take the plunge and buy the bug spray plant.

After you tape & joint, you give the whole board a thin skin of joint cement to stop the joints showing in critical light conditions.
Then would it not just be cost effective to board and skim as norm?surely the tape and joint then the thin cement coat and sand is just equivalent to skimming it?i may be wrong you will know better than me as its your area.:RpS_thumbup:

It would, but this is really about cutting down on the amount of water introduced into the property, especially when used on timber frames. Also, drying times, as you can paint the drywall system sooner. There are also primers that can be sprayed on after to make the surface more resilient, like skim.

ah ok so it's a way of getting a similar quality finish to skim that suits a timber framed build, makes sense and you learn something new every day:RpS_thumbup:

Yes, because let's face it, the finish of basic taping and jointing, no matter how well it is done, is shoite, compared to a good plasterers skimmed finish. The drywall system is a bit more flexible than skim, so there are generally less settlement cracks to address.

Airless spray plaster achieves a level 5 finish in less time and you wont need to use the likes of tuffhide either.
@TonyM your more then welcome to come and have a go

Thanks. I'll pop up in a few weeks when you are in Poole, maybe for a couple of days, to muck in and get a view of the whole system, the way you do it. I take it that the Knauf product is harder than a normal joint cement. I was skim coating with G-Tec Smartmix extra, then spraying G-Tec Universal sealer on top. The finish is excellent, if I say so myself, just very labour intensive. Once you've met me, you'll be able to let the rest of the members know what a c**t I am.
