Thanks mate. Like i said its only a quick job on side so not even gonna attempt a crash course for quick few quid. It definately is job for professionals and i would`nt give a trainee sparky a trowel and bag of multi and say right i want nothing less than a glass finish my son! :D Thanks for...

    Advice on treating damp

From Newark, Nottinghamshire. All walls ground floor and internal and although explained not a damp proofer and may only be tempoarary fix they seem happy with that. Only a "foreigner"(not literally for the politically correct), so everyones a winner! Thanks for replies!

    Advice on treating damp

Hi What is your take on this? Have seen couple of walls that have recently been skimmed and have begun bubbling and flaking from 6-12 inches from floor. Its actually paint thats bubbling however the plaster behind is beginning to deteriorate as if its not fully bonding/sealed. Looks evident...

I think i know the problem guys! ;) There are too many plasterers in Nottingham area as i am from same neck of the woods! ;D Been solid for last month now dropped right off havent advertised at all for wks while been busy so think that will have part to play. Artex ceilings

Scrape as flat as poss and use bonding agent as opposed to pva. Very rarely use pva on artex ceilings now, so much easier. Will need to leave few hrs to dry but worth wait IMHO. Put decent first coat on flatten out and top any problem areas, let first tighten up then apply 2nd coat as norm...

    backing plaster

Cheers matey! Might grow some `dirty mix` nuts and try this out then! ;D Just tend to stick with what you know especially when good finish is required. Although it is great finding new techniques, one of the many perks of the job! ::)

    backing plaster

Sounds straight forward enough. Does the adding of finish to hardwall make all the difference then? And how do you gauge this ratio normally? Have you done this with bonding as well if so did you add finish to this mix? Sorry for all questions!

    backing plaster

Hi Bigsegs, Noticed you said you tend to go straight onto hardwall with skim before its set. Heard that this could be done but never had b***s to try it and tend to let backing always dry. Have however gone onto Bonding coat before properly dry but even then whack quick coat of pva before i skim...

Newbie saying hello, and tale of two walls.

Not sure but by sounds of what you descibed sounds like when you are wet trowelling either your trowel got too dry or towards end of stroke you stopped applying enough pressure. As long as you catch it as you do it comes straight out!

    just saying hello

If you apply several dabs of finish along edge of reveal or wall and bed skim bead into this. Can also use dri wall adhesive or bonding, however i make sure to pva these before i skim for obvious reasons;)

But have been looking around lately as really want this qualification not only for what its worth in my longterm plan but for piece of mind because really want to know as much as possible as when customers paying good price last thing they want is someone havin a...

    just saying hello

Hi Justin Sounds very similar to route i took and now running own business. One thing really would advise no matter how much work your getting now is invest in city and guilds qualification and look at getting cscs card before you make the break. This is biggest mistake i made and really regret...

    Teach me about......

Loads of threads on this already but just to clarify! Bonding agent is same as bond it ;) Just one coat then leave to fully dry then plaster straight onto it ;) Two kinds i use are Thistle bond it (available at all good builders merchants) this is bright green in colour and there is Wickes...

    damn it

I know how you feel mate! I`m after same sort of work and i dont have your level of time served experience although i am a competant plasterer, without CSCS card and NVQ etc very hard to get so i am definately setting about getting these when i can afford time and cash! You would think with so...
