Had an old pensioner come round moaning about the impact driver today (hadnt used it today)

Lecturing me on why I don't need to use it... Like i can be arse to pilot hole and screw every damn screw... and then strip heads....

Who uses them and who doesnt?

I do & as tony says wouldn't be without it, but have been on several sites that won't allow them because of the noise, even though the wood butchers are using paslode nail guns

Wouldn't be without mine, I do have a back-up though, I get Tom with a hammer, nails and board, me behind with a hammer. I smack 'im on the 'ed and he smacks the nail. It's a bit slower but more fun for me!!

I do have one as it does have its uses, like putting noggins in that chippies have forgot,or,nearer to the truth just couldnt be arsed to put in:RpS_cursing:

Oh yeah, also used it for boarding for the first time the other day, overboard a lath and lime ceiling, the lime was 50mm thick in some places! the collated and the drywall driver didnt have the guts to get through it.

My makita cordless is coming to the end of its life now so going to be getting an impact driver soon, used them before on over boarding ceilings when the joists are tough, make life so much easier. Gonna have a look about cos screwfix and places sometimes do offers for s normal drill and impact together as a set, anyone seen any? And do you all use the 18v ones?

My Hilti is 22v,
Those twin drill sets might be cheap, but look at the amp hrs on the battery. 1.3ah is no good to man or beast.

danny that what happens when u live in aposh village like middleton mate full of old people moaning about noise like ur impact driver.happydays ahead:-(

The scaffolders we use. Use Hilti guns to do up the clips the noise is a joke echoing and rattling the scaff

Makita do sets with a impact and drill , with 18v 3amp hour batterys . Just make sure they are the 3 amp batterys before u buy ! Lol

Impact drills are so handy to have in the back of the van they are noisey but my hearings shite so don't tend to hear mine over the radio

Use a nail gun danny........................fu@k em...........................:RpS_thumbsup:

Use impact driver all the time light weight and light work driving the biggest and smallest screws in anything and great fun to use!

You can get just the body on ebay for around 800quid.
If ya got the charger and batteries already. Tempted as I've got the 18v combi

Putting some studding up today. 3x2 cls with 3" 10's and got thorough like 5 bits dewalt and Bosch included although not impact bits.

Seems to break them when the battery starts to slow

Any recommendations on replacement impact bits.

Sent my Hilti off to be repaired yesterday. Was picked up from site in Cornwall and taken to the repair centre in Scotland. Had an email this morning confirming repair. They've fitted a new motor and chuck and it's being delivered back to me tomorrow. £82+ vat. That's pretty good service I reckon.

Hilti will never charge more than 30% of the replacement cost of a tool, for any repair. A new bare impact driver is £185+ vat, so the repair was 30% of that, plus carriage of about £20. The gun will be as new now.

Decent that. I'd go to hilti but I've got the makita batteries charger Drills radio.
Why can't they all just run of a universal battery

My drills and impact drivers are Panasonic, I have a Makita radio that's been adapted to run Panasonic batterys.
