I few weeks ago I reversed into a customer's car which she had parked behind me. I feel such a t**t but I did not see it in my mirrors.

Anyway it was not a major prang but I told her to get it fixed and I'd pay for it save me losing my no claims etc.

She got it fixed and then I deducted the amount off my bill to her.

I am just wondering if I am able to claim that against my tax? She said she can give me the invoice for the repair, but it won't be in my name.

£395 for a bumper/grille repair!

It happens mate I had some cement dust blow on to a customer's 500 sl merc which was wet at the time, once it dried the bonnet looked like it had been tyroleaned.
£275.00 I got stung for. Gutted.

Took the wife's car to work and they customers wife reversed into it , first price I've had is £690. They don't want to claim on insurance because she pranged another car the day before

my mrs pranged her car the other day and cracked the bumper , the dozy mare,it needs replacing and repainting, ive had 2 quotes and the cheapest is £1340.

I would ask you accountant first as the bill s not in your mane...

best one i see was a scaffolder trying to be a show off by holding one of the long tubes above his head just by the end on the top lift, well he lost balance then lost the pole then lost his job and alot of money as the pole went through the roof of an m3 parked on the street below haha

Could have been worse I suppose, he could have Kebabed someone sat in it.

You should invoice her full amount then she invoice you for the damage and you pay it like a regular bill

I will find out for you but I would think no - because that's why you have insurance. I am just wondering though if your public liability (which you should have) would cover it?

Coming back to edit this.

No you can't offset this against your tax, regardless of the fact that you were at work at the time. Sorry!

I never thought about claiming through my public liability.

Never mind I have paid her anyhow.

Thanks all.

Is it too late I wonder, whilst I'm wondering; I wonder if you make a claim if your premium would go up like with car insurance. I knocked a wall over once and just paid to rebuild it and render it myself.

I wonder too. Public liability never ask if you have claimed when you renew/change policy?

I'm not sure if premiums do go up. I find myself having to change my car insurance every year and check my household policies. I am so fed up with companies giving great deals to new customers and totally taking the p!ss out of "loyal" customers. When you do an online check and find the company charging less than what they state on your renewal notice... :RpS_cursing:! Call them up and they will "try" to match it and when they can't and you say "I'm leaving" they almost say, "don't let the door catch you on the way out"! They just don't care!

So, change your insurer if the premium is going to go up. There is a lot of competition out there nowadays. We sort of link up with Trade Direct Insurance, who I believe are pretty competitive (that's for PLL, tools & vans).

Anyway, it's worth enquiring with your insurer, even though you have settled up already. At least you'll know for next time! :RpS_biggrin:
