Hi folks. Stumbled across forum when researching Krend and alternatives. We are building new house in Oban, Argyll. We want a clean/crisp finish on render to compliment design and were going to go for Krend. problem is a lot of houses in area have terrible staining after a wee while. Its been suggested we should go for cement, sand and lime render instead and paint it.

Are there any other self colour alternatives, we really wanted to be pretty much maintenance free and did like the look of Krend.

My girlfriend had her house in Poland reinsulated externally and finished render with a fancy paint which looked like a very thin skim, lasted 10 years so far without a mark or any dirt/staining which is really good as its within a forest.

Thanks in advance.

Al.

Just remember there is no such thing as maintenance free. And be wary of any renderer that tells you otherwise.

Self cleaning ( nano/lotus) is the way to go if you can pay for a higher spec than krend or monocouche.

Paragaurd will add this effect to mono but be sure to check out JUB too

Appreciate that, just looking for something that will last and look good, prepared to pay the extra for the right system. Lot more too it than I ever thought !!!

Well monocouche or krend is really the first rung on the ladder of coloured renders.
You can go for non cementious anti crack renders totally flexible to the stay clean ones we mentioned.

No point using a sledge hammer to crack an egg tho. Getting the right protection sounds like your priority. In my experience this is achieved best by a coating added at the end such as self cleaning paint like nanoxil from JUB or autol from knauf, or sealer such as paragaurd.
Also have a word with @plasterersonestopshop they have some products I think Mapei and they have a high silicone coating system too
