what floats do you as use for rubbing up s&c iv got a few of the polyurethane plastic floats from faithfull but find them horrible to use

can anyone reccomend any diffrent types to try
 
Back in the good old days plasterers swore by floats made out of yellow pine. I had one given and it was ok. A well worn polyurathane float is just as good imo.
 
a poly float does not go out of shape like a pine wooden float. we use the medium and small poly floats on sand and cement render.
 
I still have a cross grain wooden float for a Keanes cement job I did in Hillsborough nick when I was 19 (1976). Thought it was crap, the yellow pine one worked better.
 
if you all was proper plasterers you would know ho to stop a wooden float going out of shape :RpS_wink:
 
I used my wooden float to level my ladder yesterday! Can't remember the last time I used it before then
 
I use a wooden float (Marshalltown ) not f'ing Nela!! But have well worn poly floats if I need to get on the render early. Often its not the fact its wooden or not? Its the person using it!!! :rolleyes)

we had the 2 floats for different uses. the straight grained pine float to apply the first coat of sirapite, rubbing up render and as a devil float.
the cross grained float we rubbed up the set on a set of reveals, internal angles, ceiling lines and skirting lines.
keenes cement plaster was mixed with sirapite for angles, so that you had a hard angle when you dropped the rules.
the only time that i have used keenes cement as a finish plaster was on cork blockwork in a huge cold storage unit.

This new dimond faced float is the best.


lets you get on the wall alot sooner with little grab.

Only ever used the poly floats got a wooden one somewhere that I acquired but never used! Ended up with some from a Travis stock take they were the own brand trade line ones no idea what they were made of they were that soft ended up chucking them. Worth spending a bit more on them.
