Hi,

I have discussed this issue with you guys in the past and would appreciate a bit more assistance…

I have had a quote from Rendercraft (£5,800) to remove the upstairs roughcast S&C render (c70m2 including openings) from my house and apply Parex throughcolour to address a damp penetration problem.
His spec. is base + 15mm scratched to 12mm, the solid walls fully meshed and openings beaded. I queried the 12mm thickness but he said that is adequate and will cost more if thicker is required. He also proposes to remove only the loose render and leave anything that’s solid. He also works off ladders and scaffold towers.
This company does come recommended by you guys but I’d just like a bit of confirmation that I’m getting reasonable value for money. A concern of mine is the cost considering he is not spending c£1200 for scaffold and c£1500 for hacking off existing render.
Grateful if you guys can put my mind at with regard the proposal.

Get a couple of quotes, then with three people that are recommended you have choice, posting this on here is ridiculous, no one is going to second guess someone's price on a forum, if I had quoted and see this I would tell you to take a run and jump..

The price has been discussed a thousands times and it seems to check out

If you don't want to pay then leave the house as it is. Simples.

Hi,
Point taken but the price is not my main concern as that appears the going rate, its the proposal only to remove the loose s&c render and not to remove all of it. The existing render appears solid to me so based on what I've been told, not much will be removed. Is this acceptable practice??
thanks

If the existing render is solid and clean then with the right base render or adhesives you can successfully get new render to adhere to old.

As to working of ladders and towers then it is no go with me. Get two more quotes for comparison.

If you are in wales or a lot of the west of the country it wouldn't pass building regs now at under 20mm depth due to the wind driven rain index being higher in that part of the country.

He will have basecoat on as well, so thickness sounds ok to me.

Blackbird there is no point posting on here, we need to physically see the job in order to advise.

Either ask forum members to quote in the relevant section or locate plasterers close to yourself. You need minimum 3 quotes and to see their previous work before you decide.

If unsure give Parex call and ask for your area manager he will have some recommended applicators to price it. They can also spec the system. It's tough to advise further without seeing the job physically.
