Monocouche Quote.

Rendering and Monocouche is all very new to me. My first quote back from the chap my builder uses is below, what are peoples thoughts on it?
Monochouche with all the trimmings = £6900
Traditional Render £5100 (+ paint)


We are rendering the whole house and not just half now. It also includes the Garage.

Without knowing the scale or measure its a guess at this stage.
Looks a good size house though and I don't suspect the quote is bad at all. Is a good time to get render done at the mo. Prices are very competitive.

In my very very poor guestimate, i put it at 200meters square?

Thats a stab in the dark...
 
200m2 = £34.50m2. Labour only or supply and fix?

i reckon you have a good price there if supply and fix. I would cost more.

Same old
Measured through the windows (assuming you want the reveals beading and rendering into the frames) there is 272 M2.
I have not included chimney stacks as they can cost more than standard M rate
I have not measured the ingoes above the front door as they cant be seen from the drawing.
I have not measured any areas under soffits that may or may not slope that cant be seen.

You could argue to take the garage door off and some of the bi folds but you must understand it takes longer to do walls with opening that need beadeing and masking, in otherwords taking the windows out is asking the renderer to do something extra for free but that for you to take up with the guy

in 2006 this job would have cost you a few grand more - now is a very good time to get rendering done as prices are low.

I will leave it now for tha lads to disect

have you got that plasterers phone number ? i will get him to come and do some mono for me, sounds like you have found yourself a complete idiot!
 
Ok so the build is a self build. Windows and doors aren't on site yet. Thanks for the work plasterjfe. really appreciate it!From what i can make out, its a friend of the builder i am using and its friendly rates....

I would ask to see past jobs to check out his standard of workmanship.
For £22m2 supply & fix something has to give.
Hopefully he will turn out a good job for you
 
Good advice from Bobby, a good renderer will be more than happy to show off previous jobs, so go and view a few before committing.

ive said this before on here, and its worth saying again.
I heard when jfe was a teenager instead of stashing copies of readers wifes or razzle under the bed he had copies of parex's mineral colour guide and weber literature to peruse at his own leisure :razz:

you never know he might of had a break in his schedual or some other project fall through, and want something to fill in. but I agree go and have a gander at his previous jobs

Sounds a bit like me.

I had J Taylors book on plastering as my bible. Still got it today but a bit out of date.

always going on BG courses for the latest plastering methods.

I will give it to John, he is a rendering professor

I'm a bit same way, I've killed many a good conversation in social situations by starting to talk about rendering.
And when ever I go on holiday I'll take an interest in any rendered buildings, I was in Cuba last year and they were rendering some apartments across from us so I went over and started chating or trying to chat to them,and get pictures much to there bafflement.

Same here. Went to Barbados and saw some renderers on a site so hired a car and gave them a visit. Mineral based bucket coat then painted. Like we do here in winter, something to do with humidity. Sniffed out some renderers in Rhodes doing artificial stone with a mix of old saw blades. Machine renderers in Cyprus using a diesel Sp11 25mm thick and as flat as a pancake! No beads just sticks.

Best rendering i have seen is Napier New Zealand. All art deco or mordern deco. Only Napier the rest of the Country is timber or aluminium clad. Some new builds are bucket coat on insulation.

It's a different game in warm conditions abroad, I was in Mauritius, (tiny island off South Africa) few years ago and watching these lads render a gable when it was pushing 40c with a sand cement and soil mix, they were barely breaking a sweat, we were on a guided tour, so I broke away and walked over and started picking up on of there trowels.
A skilled renderer over there earns about a tenner a day, labourers even less and with it being a former british colony they all speak pretty good English. They can't believe westerners like us renderers can afford a good life,and that we're reasonably well paid for what we do. when I left I gave the young labourer my baseball cap a Ralph Lauren one, he said they can't buy them there and if they could it would cost him nearly 3 weeks wages to save up for one.
the funny aspect is they think there country is run down and that England is where dreams are made, we think the opposite think England is terrible and countries like Mauritius are like paradise.

I thought Mauritius was French colony, could be wrong like.
 
If it's 270m2 , then for the job to be done to a very high standard you'd be looking to at least double your quotes supply and fit.

Mono materials will cost a few quid on nearly 300m, if rend aid and meshing fully aswell.
