Refina power float sponges

Ian Jones has got PFT power float, tried to get one but they have stopped production, new one coming soon apparently. Had to get the Refina, but they sell lots of different types of sponges and even a plastic float for it. I'm going to try Isection then sponge on this job, not sure which sponge is best.

Just out of interest how do you use OCR now mate?
So next time you will spray, rule i section then sponge?

I couldn't bring myself to bar OCR, rather spend double time ruling it.

I hate the fact that with mono 17% of the gear applied comes back of the wall and in the bin. Even more of ball ache on a domestic when you want to leave the job spotless, the scrapings get everywhere.

I'm not happy with OCR mate I've been doing it by the book and get cracking too often sometimes the cracks arn't open but you can see them when you mist it with water.

I've got 100m2 to do now, on the smaller walls I'm going to try dampen wall, rend aid, then dampen rend aid, one good pass of OCR, I section then sponge.

If that doesn't work I'm going back to 2 coats with CPI.

I know what your saying, I hate floating it though.

I don't know if you will get round the micro cracking with OCR. The gear imo is just too fine.

Give parmaurex a go, it's a little coarser.

Thanks Wezly, so it has a name 'micro cracking' data sheets say it can be caused by over floating...which I assume is going over the same area repeatedly which I don't do...

I found it not great to float.i cannot see it looking right without it though.take mono for instance, spray, rule, spat then rub.sun hits it and it not great.

According to technical Bobby you can get the sponge on it straight after I section.

CPI is nice too float but I remember reading on here you have had problems with that in the past?

*The float/sponge/trowel smoothed finishes may
vary in appearance, particularly due to different
factors such as the line and level and condition of
the substrate or the appearance of a slurry finish
caused by over floating the surface. The latter
may produce some micro cracking effect on the
render surface which may affect the aesthetical
appearance but does not affect its durability.*

Interesting.let us know how you get on then with that.
Yes there where a few issues with cracking.
I changed my scratcher and kept the topcoat a little tighter and was loads better.

If ur using rendaid try get as much key on it as you can. I think its the weight plus it being new eco smart. I done loads before this year and never had a issue with thicknesses or cracking.
Blue sponge first. Then lightly with a fine sponge

I see so many rendaid jobs just trowed on :RpS_confused: you tube is full of them ,we trowel on then run a roller over it to give the key as per spec[h=3]Application[/h]With a hawk and trowel or an open hopper spray gun, apply a tight layer 2 - 3 mm thick to the substrate. Texture the surface using a well loaded roller.
Apply no more than 2 - 3 m2 before texturing. It is important that the final texture achieved should be a deep, heavy stipple finish with a textured depth of 5 - 10 mm.
For difficult substrates, such as those with low suction or those retaining dust after cleaning, scrub weber.rend aid well into the surface with a small hand brush and then texture with the brush or roller.

I've been using a textured roller from B and Q and have been getting 5 - 10mm stipple. One thing I haven't being doing is dampening down the Rend Aid before applying the OCR, not sure if this is necessary? haven't seen anything in the data sheets...but have noticed that after a couple of days in the hot sun the Rend Aid is very dry, wonder if there is too much suction on it.

You got a link to the scratcher? I'll let you know how I get on.

Applied 1.5 pallets of OCR today 3 of us by hand to concrete block. Did tight coat then bedded in weber mesh then kept on applying to get level with beading then ruled of flat. Dropped back about 30-45 min later. Used the Refina power float attachment first to rub it up flat but the gear was still quite wet but had began to form a slight crust I then put on the thick sponge attachment and went over it again just to really pimp it up . The result was a flawless finish the machine did me proud. In my opinion this is the best way to finish OCR

I used the filzomat two weeks ago and if you get timing right it is so fast and easy.

yes I used the plastic diamond grey float attachment first and then the thick, id say pink in color sponge. its about 2" thick. just looked on refina site and they dont show image of the sponge attachment its NOT the orange or blue ones. they just sent me one of everything they had when i bought it. i can send a picture if you still stuck?

may be what refina call tan color Ref: 550413 it is 2-3 times thicker than the blue and orange sponges . brilliant bit of kit

only add water to it if you are losing the pannel. ie if the sun is cooking it splash little water and rub up with the plastic diamond until looks good then use the thick sponge attachment [dry]
