Any of you lads had tennis elbow? I went to the quacks yesterday and he has diagnosed me with having tennis elbow.

Painfull on the trowel when pulling up. He reckons I should not rest my elbow completely but do forearm muscle strengthening exercises and ease off with the trowel for a bit. May be able to do that if I can get everyone to turn in. The lads want to help as without me they are out of a job but at this time of year at least someone's going to be off with a bad cold or flu.

The doc said it could last a few weeks with care or a year or two with ignorance. Well it's the right time of year to take it easy, not going to be busy until March as usual.

Any of you had it and did it go away? Apparently most plasterers, joiners and brickies get it some time in their lives.

Had tendonitis in me wrist, same thing I think.........couldn't hold a trowel, but worse still i couldn't lift a pint :-0
Refraining from anything that puts a strain on it is good, and a bit of regular manipulation to stop it seizing up, get some good anti-inflammatories into you (double the dose for first couple of days), drink plenty of fluids and you will be sorted for the New Year :RpS_thumbup:

You can get tennis elbow straps from some chemists which help, avoid quartozone injections if you can but if you do have one you need to rest the elbow totaly for at least a week or you wil just make it worse, i had surgery on mine many years ago and its been fine ever since but it was about a month before i could get back to work after the op.

Got it in both arms, Trowel arms the worst, I use arm braces when i'm working and the best ones i've found are the EPI sport ones off ebay for about £18 each, I try to avoid taking gear straight out of the bucket with a bucket trowel,

had it in my trowel arm (right) had the cortisone injection read up about them and refused the second one (dont do nowt anyway!) had the physio did the exercises and nowt! then the specialist gave me an massive injection with a needle the size of blackpool tower (not cortisone) and its been ok since, but now i got it in my left arm AND ITS F****ING 10 TIMES WORST THAN THE OTHER!!!!!!!! worst thing you can do is let it totally rest!

I asked the quack if I should get one of those sports elbow thingys his reply was (inbetween his laughter) 'yes if you want to look like a ****' 'they do nothing for tennis elbow'

I have been told not to totally rest it by the doctor. I need to build up the muscle in my fore arm and resting it completely will do the opposite. But in the same sense you don't want to do what aggravates it and caused the damage in the first place. Most people what get tennis elbow usually has a job or sport what involves a tight grip. In our case its gripping the trowel.

I have been on youtube and there is loads of info on there regarding what tennis elbow is, what causes it and remedy's. Massage to soften the muscle and muscle building exercises seems to be the answer. If you have to work then the straps or clasps seem to take some of the strain of the tendon attached to the nobly bone which is the part which is damaged but you should only wear them when you have to.

Wont be masturbating with my right hand for a while, it will be case of not 99 change hands but 99 and have a rest:RpS_lol:

had it last december in both elbows went to see physio used ultrasound not much use used one of the straps not much use then went for accupuncture £25.00 a pop six sessions sorted it out get the odd twinge now and again in arm but 99% of time spot on

It makes an old man of you before your time. The labourers I have had what has quit the job because it is to physically hard. Don't blame them, hard work for peanuts. The only labradors I have had stick the job are as thick as 2 short planks!
