I completed a job earlier this month & it was an absolute nightmare from start to finish! I have been plastering for 30 years & have never had to do a job as awkward as this 1 :RpS_crying: It was a single storey extension that was going to be an art studio that had some weird arty farty ideas when it came to the design especially the plasterboarding & skimming. The ceiling joist were not going to be boarded & skimmed but the pitched roof trusses were!! It was difficult enough doing the boarding with insulated board never mind the skimming! There was approx 30 ceiling joists to work around with a hawk & trowel, ducking in & out & up & down, me & another spread done the ceiling in 2 sets but nearly lost the second set but just about got it troweled up to a fashion:RpS_blink:

I was back today to finish another area in the same property & viewed the nightmare ceiling after it was painted, it was better than I had expected but there were a few areas that looked a tad rough with scrim showing through etc. The builder wants me to put some drywall final coat stuff onto the bad areas & he would sand them off the next day. Never done this before & aint sure that it would work. Anyone any experience in this smooth over method? Dont want to fall out with the builder as he gets me plenty of work. :RpS_thumbsup:

Get a bucket of sheetrock finishing compound, or Lafarge / bg lite which will be much easier to sand & will keep as long as you keep the lid on as its not a chemical set. This is not for filling holes only finishing. Ideal for sorting these problems. Any of these materials on top of bare gypsum plaster is not done & is why the painters will mist coat everything before filling.

Scrim tape is much more ragged than it used to be though right?

The G Tec stuff doesnt like sitting on paint. Stuck some coving up with this stuff over paint which we scored as per and next day it looked like it was trying to release.Never had this happen with BG or the Knauf gear .

Did you use the joint cement or joint filler for the cove?

Its there Drywall compound Stuart, used drywall loads for coving and its only this product thats give me any dramas.

Never heard of using finishing for coving, we use joint filler as I find it a lot better to use than cove addy.

No, don't think I'm crazy but years ago I'm sure there was a product called 'pink velvet'? It got me out of a few pickles, like the conservatory I did which turned into an oven as soon as I started mixing up!

Came in a small bag, about 10kg but was about £20.

Anyone remember using it......or was I dreaming?

Think lafarge made velvet, pink?:RpS_confused: Never heard of that. Velvet & Bg joint cement bagged always picked up bits of **** & would skin over when stored in your own bucket. Bg joint cement in tubs is out the window in favour or the light versions in tubs. For big taping jobs the bagged gear is the only economical choice. Used to buy a great knauf readymix tub product from a merchants who were swallowed up by jewsons & then switched to by. Haven't seen it since

Think Lafarge are siniat now calling the material gtec. Everyone called the finishing stuff 'velvet' back before the tub stuff & new stuff came out. It was brutal on the eyes & nose to rub down.
