Now then,

Buying a van in the next couple of Weeks. What do you lot do? Estate cars / small vans / large vans?

I have had a SWB transit and a couple of escort vans int' past but at the moment due to taking a short break from the trade, Im in an estate car. What vans do you all recommend? Something to fit boards in - I used to have roof racks on my escort vans but when it rained, it f**kin poured :(

Also if anyone know of anything going for sale I'm in Yorkshire and can collect

Thanks

Billy

it all depends what type of work you are going to be doing. labour only on a building site you only need a small van with good mpg.
supply and fit you need a vehicle that will carry your materials , tools and plant, that you can load and unload quickly.

I will be needing a new van in the near future n can't beat the old rust bucket transit for value. Seen afew hiace's aswell they seem to run forever. I hate making decisions

SWB trannie is your best bet, my navara does me and doubles as a car, great in snow, depends what your doing, anything big and I get it delivered...

As ever, this will turn into a thread with everyone recommending the very van that they're driving around in :RpS_bored:

there very nice mate, havent read the reviews, you ought to see the trucks when I was in canada, proper pick ups... have you seen the Toyota Tundra ?? thats the dogs, be too expensive on juice for here though..

Had Nissan Cabstars for decades. Hardly ever go wrong but costs if they do.

Just had new tyres this week for the mot the first since new and took 4 1/2 years. Had an air bag fault last year and the part cost £165.00. Ball joint for last years test a bit unexpected. £65.00.

These cost so much to repair if pranged they get written off easily. There is a breaker in Taunton with loads of spares. Ok if you like pick ups.

If I was buying a van now? Vivaro, new tranny or Hiace. Always had a Ford Mondeo current one into it's 9th year owned from new and cost a clutch and anti roll bar. Vauxhall Astra's before the mid 90's Mondeo and never had trouble co European Ford and Vauxhall. But Like Nissans too.

Just had a 59 plate iveco in jan, must say its amazing...

before that I had Peugeot boxer for 7 years.

My iveco daily swb is one of the better vans I've had over the years you get boards in them easy I had a jumbo bag of sand in the back once before I put the shelving in.
I liked my Renault master lwb too but could be a bit of a pain to park sometimes.

I use to have a cab star great little vans, **** there selves when you get any weight on the back thou. I've bought new transits last few years through misguided loyalty I suppose. And there still shocking rusters, one of my 2009 vans is rotten like a pear already. Have a Nissan navara great, pull like a train.

Thats what I like about Jap vans, no bonnet. I can get my Cabstar in the tightest of parking spaces and turns better than a black cab!

I bought a new vivaro 18mths ago which i like very very much, and will probably swap it soon for another one. however everytime a merc vito or a vw transporter go past me, theres a small part of me that wishes id pushed the boat out a bit further.

Rigs thats a small lorry

Where do you put your machine ? material ?

Got me a Ford F- 150 with over load springs and an extra tall canopy on it for hauling material, scaffold & refuse, but most of the time I drive around in my E-150 ford van. Probably wouldn't be recommending the pickup for across the pond, but I sure like working out of a midsize van, not too bad on the fuel consumption either, most people are driving gas motors around here as they tax the heck out of diesel.

We used Dodge rams in Canada.. nice truck, the F-150 is better.. the silverado is nice aswell, but they all fail behind the Tundra..

Mwb semi high roof transit for me. But depends what you are doing, I often need to get a load of boards or timber etc so wouldn't be able to cope with anything smaller. If I was just doing site work then would get a connect or swb transit.

New transit is the nuts but so expensive!

I couldn't cope with that dude unloading every night your tools etc

Well on a positive note you make sure that all nickables are off the vehicle. On the negative you get up next morning to find your van broke into and everything gone?

Got my vivaro sportive lwb from new about 9 months ago. The newer ones are good vans but how I also wish I would have got a transporter. Saying that you can buy 2 new vivaro sportives for the price of a new transporter , Well the one I wanted anyways
