why am I getting tigers stripes wen I skim a wall

not happing every time that's wats making me more puzzled

been plastering4 years so would sound for any tips

Dont put in on too thick, Mix up new gear for laying in with. Keep ya trowel flatter to the wall when troweling up............................or one coat it , speedy it , sponge it then plazzi it.......................fool proof...................:RpS_thumbsup:

clean trowel keep the blade closed rahter than wide open less water dont lay on so thick and you could be troweling it too early. there you go various ways to cure it try them and see which one works for you then youll know why you was getting them in the first place

Geez the old tiger stripe problem...... I've put hundreds of meters right for my old boss when his lads left tiger stripes....... scratch on as normal then a tight laying in coat ....... trowel it to a set with a steel trowel...... try 2 larger guages rather than 3 smaller ones as skim hangs around this time of the year........ try NOT crossing it too !

Tiger stripes are caused by applying too much pressure on the trowel when the plaster is still soft. Be gentle with it at first then more pressure as it firms up, there is no need to be squeezing the plaster hard when it is still wet.

The best finishes I've seen are from lads who one coat with a sponge and the other holds his trowel pretty much at a right angle to the wall when he trowels up and cross trowels funny old game lol
the only thing I gain from it is both are forcing and grinding it flat

When i go back to one coating after a while 2 coating i seem to apply to much pressure at start as if i'm trying to over compensate for only applying one coat. The result is always tiger stripes till i remind myself to ease up.

I believe tiger stripes are lines from you're first coat grinning through on you're second when troweling up! Try flattening you're first coat a bit better before applying you're second! A speed skim may be you're tool!

Striping has increased massively in the last 5 years. There are ways around it by tweeking methods but for sure its caught the best spreads of late its no coincidence...... The finish has changed no question. They have fiddled with it or maybe the mines have changed the deeper they dig but for sure finish ain't what it used to be 10 year ago
