Hi, I've just bought a house, and need to skim two of the walls in the main bedroom. The walls are already plastered but I feel they need a skim rather than trying to fill. I keep seeing on the web that I need to apply two coats of plaster. Is this necessary as the walls aren't too bad, can't I just use one coat? Can you help?

I get the feeling I'd intrude on a well established tradition to answer normally.

But I will give a correct answer all the same because you can't muck people around.

It's actually 4 coats. People say 2 coats but you apply it, then you rub it in with the trowel. Then you apply the second and rub it in more. So I guess kinda two coat if you put it like that. But you got to work it constantly as you put it on, leave it then work it more. On the second time work it for a good ten minutes back and forward all over the place. Eventually it will go flat, if it hasn't you ain't worked it enough.

never heard so much **** in all my life

Stick too the two coats. Not being rude but if you have to ask us you are unsure of yourself. One coat can be a **** to get right unless your confident enough to try it an be prepared to pay for anything that can go wrong.
Try one coat by all means. Just sayin be prepared to go back over it two coat multi.

Best of luck anyway
