PVA peeling

PVA'd a wall today
And upon checking if it had gone tacky it peeled straight back off wherever touched.

The wall was skimmed about a week ago
So would I be right in thinking I've gone on the wall too soon
And that the recent skim hasn't dried out completely?

Also if that's the case. How would I rectify it now?
Do I let the wall go another few days/week and go again
Or...

Cheers

You probably went on it too strong rather than too soon, prime it with a weak coat ie 5/1 strength max then when it pulls in a 3/1 coat

Give a couple of coats of weak pva let it dry then a stronger pva tacky before skim:RpS_thumbup:

I've been using 4 water 1 PVA

I'll try a 6:1 then.

With the PVA that's peeling now is it alright to go over that with the weak PVA
Or will any peeling ruin the finish?

Finally, how many coats of weak is appropriate?

Thanks

Depends,,

Just pva it now then skim when tacky..its only a practice wall....some times it can be lots of weak coats, some pva brands are piss thin already ......
push the boat out an buy some stabiliser..it'll be good practice for you.
as asif says...depends...:RpS_biggrin:

to put your mind at rest lee I knock al my pva up 50/50 and just keep it in a big tub and will prime a dry old plaster wall with the same solution as a gloss wall with it I just let it go dry and crack on and don't have any dramas.

but I know exactly what you are explaining it will peel of like a skin if you pull on it and a weaker solution will help...though just to add when your wet plaster goes on it doesn't create the same problem as when it sticks to your hand and pulls etc pal

Funnily enough I did a bathroom wall the other day and rollered it with weak PVA before giving it a stronger coat. The PVA was pulling off with the roller and I was getting dry spots all over when I skimmed it. Nothing cracked or crazed though and it finished nice.
