I have seen a few good videos on Youtube with plastering / rendering, but not very many. I am self taught and so anyhting that shows methods and application is a bonus. The best one i have seen was one were there was a guy creating quoins. It was really good but I can't find it now. I don't know whether this one is a joke or serious :RpS_unsure::

I can't see many tips in it but I had a laugh reading the comments after it :RpS_biggrin:

I must be a Master Plasterer like Tim :RpS_biggrin: It has to be a joke when they are pointing to the clock

Guys I don't know how to post threads but what would you plaster a fire surround with that's going to have a log burner init? British gypsum plaster can only withhold upto 45 degrees before cracking and probably shells off any advice would be much appreciated thanks

I would use lime render Richard if you mean the opening itself. I know a few installers and when they do them themselves instead of asking me they will use cement board. I saw one this week when i went to do a chimney brest and it looked fantastic. I got the number of the installer to see what it was and he said it was heat resistant masterboard or heatboard 15mm.

But when I checked it was only fire retardent. Niot very good of him really to be putting that in customers houses. The thing is there is only brick behind it so it wouldn't matter but I am sure regs say it has to be non combustable. You could try vermiculite board or superlux but they are expensive but if you are spending a fe wgrand on a woodburner what is a few hundred to make it look good. On the brest itself i would just use multi with some fibres added.

I used Everbuild heat proof plaster for the first time afew weeks back onto hardi boards dried sooo fast n really gloopy stuff to spread but got a really nice finish

:RpS_blushing: Embarrasing for the lad. I have checked the Kirk ones you have mentioned but they are American, though good on rendering. He is a quality tradesman. The scottish bloke looked a bit DIY. There are not as many as I thought but there are a a few K Rend etc. I have just seen this one from today a real old timer:

How do you get the video to appear in the post rather than the link?

press the little video reel icon in the reply box, 2nd from right , then paste your link into it.I remember I had some difficulty with this :RpS_blushing:
